Our Network
All networks are not created equally...
XLHost uses Cisco 12000 Series routers, and Cisco 6500 Series switches to move your data from one end of our network; to the Internet and back again. The Cisco name ensures security, reliability, and always excellent performance. Our network is connected via 3 separate SONNET (redundant physical fiber-optics) rings to multiple carriers including MCI, Global Crossing, and Time Warner Cable.
All routes are not created equally...
eNet Inc, XLHost’s parent company, has been providing Internet connectivity for over 15 years. In this time; we have come to realize the hard fact that all transit providers are not equal. That is why we have partnered with Global Crossing, a leader in International transit; MCI, which is one of the largest networks in the world, and Time Warner Cable whom provides us with direct connections to Road Runner customers.
Even with all of these great transit providers the Internet is dynamic; if a router 14 hops away from us goes down, or a whole network goes down, your traffic still needs to get where it is going, and your customers still need to get to your servers. Anything else is unacceptable. Even if a link does not entirely fail; if you are using Voice Over IP and a sudden performance hiccup hits an intermediate router; you and your customers will suffer. This is also unacceptable.
So what about BGP?
Well BGP isn't the perfect solution, while BGP will allow you to announce that there are multiple paths for traffic to enter and exit your network incase of a link failure. BGP doesn't know how much load to put on a link, or measure performance; or care if the link it is using has 90% packet loss.
So what can XLHost do differently than other hosts?
Route optimization is a technique in which optimization hardware continually probes destinations on the Internet to test for multiple metrics of performance and stability. Some of these metrics include; latency, packet loss, and jitter. All of these factors are factored into a score that is then assigned to that destination, and then a route is chosen for that destination, based upon that score.
For certain applications that rely on low latency such as Voice Over IP, Gaming, and Video applications; constantly measuring the best routes through the Internet means that if there is an issue; your traffic can quickly be shifted without interruption to the best possible transit provider. The XLHost network automatically shifts traffic constantly between links. Route optimization is the just another way XLHost provides you the best dedicated server hosting experience available in the world today.
